Long Island Head Start's early childhood development services area provides educational services to the children, parents, and staff of the entire agency. We work closely with the other service areas in providing many of these services. We also carry out a wide variety of trainings and workshops... many of which overlap into our other service areas. In addition, we attend local and national conferences/training seminars in order to keep abreast of the latest issues in early childhood education. LIHS works closely with the community's local education agencies (LEAs) in maintaining ongoing collaborations in the area of child development and education.

Education Services include:

  • Monitoring classroom & all classroom records
  • Providing technical assistance to teaching staff
  • Advising teaching staff in the CDA (Child Development Associate) process
  • Conducting student-intern teacher programs in collaboration with local colleges
  • Facilitate on-going teaching staff training's/workshops
  • Participate in the hiring process for education staff
  • Administering developmental screenings to children
  • LEA collaborations (UPK)
  • Tracking children and families through the special educations process in local school districts

The ECD Service Area works hard to encourage parents to participate in their child(ren)'s education and become part of the Head Start experience. Listed below are just some of the services we encourage our Head Start parents to participate in:

Our most important goal is to instill a positive sense of self-worth by providing our children with the best Head Start!
